Alva Vanderbilt Belmont’s hat of aigrette feathers, coupled with an attention-getting comment about the need to horsewhip men from time to time, left her open to charges of cruelty to animals and the male of the human species in the Williamsport Gazette-Bulletin of Pennsylvania, as it carried announcement of the founding of the Men’s League for Woman Suffrage.
The Suffragents won the Gold Medal in US History in the 2018 Independent Publisher Book Awards competition.
