“That was wonderful. And it’s true, experiencing more than one narrow slice of the world makes everyone “who must pass between” know more and understand more.

“I’m now reading Passing: When People Can’t Be Who They Are by Brooke Kroeger.

“Impressed by the author’s breadth of circumstances. Most famously non-white heritage people who “passed” into the whiter, more dominant, world, and lost their real one. Though this one is not a history, but a variety of experiences, like a boy of bi-racial heritage dealing with looking like one parent but being more at home in the other’s world.

“I know about LBTQ+ people pretending to be straight most of their time, Neurodivergents not even realizing they are Masking, and Fundamentalists who deconvert while still immersed in a high control religion. But it does bestow some nasty insight, and who knews when someone might need it, or pass one on.”
