Rogers Memorial Library: Brooke Kroeger with David Alpern, November 8, 2023

November 8, 2023

With David Alpern and Yvette Postelle

I’m grateful to David Alpern, who, after reviewing Undaunted for the East Hampton Star, interviewed me at his invitation for The Dutch Treat Club and then again a month later at Southampton’s Rogers Memorial Library. David is a Newsweek veteran, keenly attuned to the story of the newsweekly’s women staff members in the 1970s, who took the legal steps the 1964 civil rights legislation afforded them to urge equity from their employers, men who hadn’t yet grasped the merits of such a course.

Attendance was modest but robust, including Yvette Postelle, the programming department supervisor, who had coffee and sweets on hand, and the library’s director Liz Burns. My friends from Bookhampton even racked up a few sales.

And, for good measure, a video of the event from the library’s Youtube channel, which also has the transcript:

And here’s an audio recording of the event.

Brooke Kroeger, author of Undaunted: How Women Changed American Journalism will be joined by David Alpern, former Newsweek editor and radio host, for a conversation about the remarkable women who changed the face of journalism in America. In her book, Kroeger examines the careers of both well-known and long-forgotten women who fought to establish their place in the male-dominated world of journalism.
