This is a Youtube video of my appearance March 19, 2026, also on Zoom, with the Veterans Breakfast Club, to discuss “The Go-Between,” a recent article of mine for The American Scholar about the World War II journalist, Helen Kirkpatrick of the Chicago Daily News and Ann Stringer of United Press, the subject of my chapbook “A Journalist at War,” published by Thornwillow Press. Notably, in the audience was Russell Freeburg, a World War II veteran and former reporter, managing editor, and Washington bureau chief of The Chicago Tribune. He is 103 years old.
